Resilience...and ladybugs
Poetics of the stain
Ladybugs, which commonly embody good luck and renewal, are here at once frightening, intriguing, unsettling and familiar or comforting.
Like a vulnerable and powerful friend sharing our struggles, their presence invites us to accept our “spots”/flaws as essential parts of our identity.
The childlike aspect that emerges from these creations echoes a return to the essential.
Through a parallel with the human experience, Juliette illustrates how our own marks/lacks, whether physical or emotional, define our uniqueness.
Inspired by the art of Kintsugi, where the cracks in objects are sublimated by gold, here the golden spots invite us to reconsider our flaws not as fragilities to be hidden, but as strengths to be revealed, suggesting that it is in the acceptance of our particularities that our true resilience lies.
